Gandhi bridge in Ahmedabad is one of the oldest bridge connecting Old & West City. This bridge opened for traffic in year 1940. Off late, engineering wing of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation noticed distressed signs. Accordingly, AMC authorities have decided for major repair. M/s Radhe Structorepair Pvt Ltd jointly with M/s Sanjay Construction Company, Ahmedabad involved in this prestigious bridge repair project and made it healthier to last couple of decades more.
Bottom of most of the girders have shown spalling of cover concrete exposing main reinforcement bars.
Bottom most layer of steel reinforcement got heavily corroded due to corrosion. At places noticed drastic reduction in dia of rebar / complete disappearance of rebar.
Noticed spalling and exposure of reinforcement bars in many of the patches of bottom of slab and sides of girder.
Repair work to be carried out in running traffic on bridge as diversion was not possible.
Structural consultant and Engineering Dept of AMC have arrived following of the restoration methodology after evaluating all available options.
Erect safe working platform for men, material, and machines.
Design and erect support system for span under repair
Removal of loosely hold / delaminated concrete and make patch straight at edges.
Low viscous epoxy injection grout in cracks and honeycombing.
Fixing new reinforcement bars at girder bottom and sides as per structural design.
Apply corrosion resistant coating to steel reinforcement,
Rebuilding loss of concrete using pre-packed, high strength, spray applied mortar.
Apply curing compound to cure it effectively for entire curing period.
Entire bridge got repaired within specified time limit mainly due to Spray Applied Mortar
Iconic bridge got extended healthier life for many of the decades in time to come.
Authorities and Structural consultant decided to use same methodology for another bridge.
