Repair & Retrofitting of fire affected structure

Repair & Retrofitting of fire affected structure

Fire at Industrial unit can be a most devastating as it is not only damages property, but also disrupts production. It also affects entire ecosystem of industry negatively. Radhe Structorepair Pvt Ltd is pleased to showcase one more challenging project of “Repair & Retrofitting of fire affected structure” located in South Gujarat.

The Concerns:

Thermal expansion & dehydration of concrete / plaster induced surface cracks.

Spalling of concrete noticed.

At temp of > 2600 C, rebars can become brittle and loose it’s design strength up to 20%

The Repair Methodology:

All fire affected structural members got evaluated systematically to determine extent of damage and repair strategies. A holistic repair & retrofitting approach implemented. Carried out various tests like, visual inspection, rebound hammer test, UPV test and concrete core test. Following of the methodology adopted.

Entire surface got water blasted with very high pressure of 300 bar.

RCC elements with dislocation/ sheared at plane are re-constructed.

RCC slabs retrofitted by introducing new slab with micro-concrete underneath.

RCC elements affected up to cover concrete are cleaned, reprofiled with PMM, injected with epoxy grout in cracks and finally strengthened using CFRP.

RCC elements with minimal fire damage are repaired with epoxy injection grouting in cracks finally protected with coating on entire surface.

The Outcome

Industrial unit started production within 4 months of issue of LOI. This was due to right selection of repair methodology in consultation with structural designer.

Despite severe damage of structure, unit got salvaged. This proved highly economical
